Colours for light brown hair
This is your palette
In our quiz light brown hair – dark blonde, as many call it – leans a little towards warm and sits between light and dark, so your skin does most of the deciding. It most often leads to Deep Autumn, True Autumn or Light Spring: next to fair skin to a light palette, next to beige or olive skin to a soft one, and next to brown or deep skin usually to Deep Autumn. Your eyes, hair and skin together decide whether yours is warm or cool, and a check at the mirror after the result settles it.

Tips
- Look at your hair in daylight, and at the roots if you colour it. Light brown with golden or caramel glints takes warm, soft colours – camel, warm beige, olive, terracotta, soft peach. Light brown with a grey, ashy cast takes cooler, quieter ones – grey-blue, mauve, rose-beige, soft taupe.
- Light brown hair is a middle depth, so it sits most easily with colours of the same strength: neither pale nor very dark, and muted rather than neon. Pair colours that are close in depth – camel with cream, grey-blue with taupe – rather than black against stark white, which tends to take over from your own colouring.
- Near your face, try a colour that echoes your hair: caramel, toffee or camel beside a golden light brown, mushroom or soft taupe beside an ash one. It ties the outfit to your colouring. Go a shade lighter or darker than the hair itself – an exact match tends to blur into it.
- Build your basics from soft neutrals rather than black. With warm light brown: camel, cream, chocolate and olive. With ash light brown: taupe, soft grey, navy and off-white. Keep black for shoes, bags and trousers, further from your hair.
- Match your metal to the warmth of your hair: gold, brass and bronze with golden light brown, silver and pewter with ash. Rose gold and satin or brushed finishes sit between the two and often suit any light brown, while high-shine metal can look brighter than this soft colouring.
- Your skin decides how light or deep to go. With fair skin, light brown hair leads to the lighter palettes – peach, aqua, powder blue. With beige or olive skin it leads to the soft, muted ones, most often True Autumn. With brown or deep skin the hair reads as contrast, and the result usually moves to Deep Autumn and its deeper, richer colours – the quiz checks that against your skin and eyes.
How to find your palette
Colour analysis reads three things in your colouring: warm or cool, light or deep, clear or soft. The quiz asks about your eyes, hair and skin, looked at in a mirror by a window in daylight. It never photographs or scans your face, and the palette it finds is yours to keep.
