What colours go with yellow
This is your palette
Yellow lifts any outfit, but it is the colour people most often wear in the wrong version. A warm golden yellow like this one belongs to the Springs and the Autumns: True Spring’s honey wheat, Light Spring’s warm apricot, True Autumn’s amber honey, Deep Autumn’s burnished gold and Soft Autumn’s soft ochre. Light Summer wears a soft lemon, and Bright Winter an icy lemon. True Summer, True Winter and Deep Winter find a golden yellow hard near the face: on them it can look sallow. Below, what to wear with yellow, palette by palette.

Tips
- Yellow and navy is the easiest smart pair: the navy grounds the yellow, the yellow wakes the navy up. True Spring wears honey wheat or marigold with a deep marine navy; Light Spring butter yellow with marine navy or cornflower periwinkle; Bright Winter lemon ice with royal blue or a deep true navy.
- Yellow with grey looks modern and calm. Light Summer pairs soft lemon with pearl grey; Bright Winter pairs lemon ice with cool grey or steel grey; Soft Summer, which has no bright yellow, pairs its soft olive gold with dove grey. Keep the grey as cool or warm as the yellow.
- Purple sits opposite yellow on the colour wheel, so the pair is bold but balanced. True Spring wears marigold with spring amethyst; Light Summer soft lemon with cool lilac; Deep Autumn burnished gold with damson or deep aubergine.
- For the Autumns, yellow means gold and ochre, and it loves teal, olive and brown. True Autumn wears amber honey or golden ochre with deep teal, forest olive or dark warm brown; Deep Autumn burnished gold with rich teal or mahogany; Soft Autumn soft ochre or wheat gold with muted teal or dusty denim blue.
- For a fresh spring look, put yellow with ivory and green. Light Spring wears butter yellow with warm ivory and fresh leaf; True Spring honey wheat with ivory silk and grass green; Bright Spring bright golden yellow with bright ivory and a bright emerald.
- Not sure which yellow is yours? In daylight, hold a golden yellow and then a pale, cool lemon under your chin. If the gold makes your skin glow, you lean warm; if the lemon looks fresher, you lean cool. If both make your skin look sallow, wear yellow lower down – a skirt, a bag, shoes – and keep your palette’s own light colours near the face.
How to find your palette
Colour analysis reads three things in your colouring: warm or cool, light or deep, clear or soft. The quiz asks about your eyes, hair and skin, looked at in a mirror by a window in daylight. It never photographs or scans your face, and the palette it finds is yours to keep.
