What colours go with green
This is your palette
Green goes with more colours than people think, and every one of our palettes has a green of its own. The question is which green. A deep, slightly muted forest green like this one belongs to the deep and soft palettes: Deep Winter’s spruce green, True Winter’s deep emerald, Deep Autumn’s dark verdigris, True Autumn’s deep teal, and the muted teals of Soft Autumn and Soft Summer. The clear palettes – True Spring, Bright Spring and Bright Winter – find a greyed green harder near the face and wear clear ones instead: grass green, bright emerald. Light Spring, Light Summer and True Summer have lighter or bluer greens: fresh leaf, soft sea green, cool teal. Below, what to wear with green, palette by palette.

Tips
- Green and white is the freshest pair there is – just choose the white your palette wears. The Winters put their emerald or spruce next to pure or winter white; the Autumns put deep teal or olive next to ivory or cream; Soft Summer puts its sage teal next to a cool soft white.
- Green and blue sit side by side in nature, and they work on you too. Deep Winter pairs spruce green with deep navy or sapphire; Soft Summer pairs sage teal with dusty blue; Light Summer pairs soft sea green with powder blue. Keep the two at the same depth: deep with deep, soft with soft.
- Pink and red sit opposite green on the colour wheel, so they make it glow. True Winter wears deep emerald with cherry red or magenta; Bright Winter wears emerald with hot cerise; Soft Autumn wears muted teal with dusty plum rose or apricot clay; Light Spring wears fresh leaf with peach or shell pink.
- For the Autumns, green is a base colour, not an accent. True Autumn wears forest olive or deep teal with rust, camel and golden ochre; Deep Autumn wears deep olive or rich teal with mahogany and burnished gold. Gold jewellery finishes it better than silver.
- Choose your green by how clear it is. Clear greens – grass green, bright emerald, kelly – are for the Springs and Bright Winter. Muted greens – sage, moss, eucalyptus – are for Soft Summer and Soft Autumn. Deep greens – forest, spruce, pine – are for Deep Winter and Deep Autumn.
- Not sure which green is yours? In daylight, hold a bright green and then a muted one under your chin. The right green makes your skin look even and your eyes clear; the wrong one turns the skin sallow or makes the green look dull. If no green convinces you near the face, wear it lower down – trousers, a skirt, a bag.
How to find your palette
Colour analysis reads three things in your colouring: warm or cool, light or deep, clear or soft. The quiz asks about your eyes, hair and skin, looked at in a mirror by a window in daylight. It never photographs or scans your face, and the palette it finds is yours to keep.
