What colours go with blue
This is your palette
Blue is the easiest colour there is to wear: a mid blue like this one turns up in nearly every one of our palettes. What changes is its temperature and how clear it is. True Summer has summer blue, Bright Winter clear cerulean and Deep Winter storm sapphire. The Springs wear warmer, livelier blues – warm cornflower, a clear periwinkle, cornflower periwinkle – and Light Summer a soft periwinkle. Soft Summer, Soft Autumn and Deep Autumn wear dusty and denim blues. True Winter goes stronger, to true blue and cobalt; True Autumn goes greyer, to slate denim. Below, what to wear with blue, palette by palette.

Tips
- Blue and orange sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, which is why the pair looks so alive – and it belongs to the warm palettes. True Spring wears warm cornflower with golden poppy or marigold; Soft Autumn dusty denim with warm terracotta or camel; Deep Autumn storm denim with deep pumpkin or brick clay.
- For the cool palettes, blue’s best partner is pink. True Summer pairs summer blue with soft raspberry or cool rose; Light Summer pairs periwinkle with rose petal or cool lilac; Soft Summer pairs dusty blue with ash rose or muted mauve.
- Blue and yellow is a bright, sunny pair for the clear palettes. Bright Spring wears a clear periwinkle with bright golden yellow; Light Spring cornflower periwinkle with butter yellow; Bright Winter clear cerulean with lemon ice. Keep the yellow as clear as the blue.
- Blue jeans count as a neutral, so they go with almost every colour in your palette. Put your best colour on top, near the face, and let the denim do the rest: a camel or rust knit for an Autumn, a raspberry or lilac top for a Summer, coral or peach for a Spring, a vivid jewel colour for a Winter.
- For a calm, polished look, wear blue with more blue or with grey. Deep Winter puts storm sapphire with deep navy and icy grey; Soft Summer puts dusty blue with storm navy and dove grey; True Summer puts summer blue with greyed navy and pearl grey. A tonal outfit like this looks expensive with almost no effort.
- Not sure which blue is yours? In daylight, hold a vivid royal blue, then a dusty denim blue, then a soft periwinkle under your chin. The right one makes your eyes look brighter and your skin even. Vivid blues tend to suit the clear palettes, dusty ones the soft palettes, and light, gentle ones the light palettes.
How to find your palette
Colour analysis reads three things in your colouring: warm or cool, light or deep, clear or soft. The quiz asks about your eyes, hair and skin, looked at in a mirror by a window in daylight. It never photographs or scans your face, and the palette it finds is yours to keep.
