Shoulder reads wider than hip. Everything here works by adding weight low and keeping the top clean.
The rule
Volume below the waist, simplicity above it.
Pieces that work
- Full midi skirtAdds the width low down
- Wide-leg trouserBalances the upper line
- Scoop or V neckOpens and narrows the shoulder
- Unstructured cardiganSoftens without padding
- Bootcut jeanRestates width at the hem
- Simple shell topKeeps the top half quiet
- Patch-pocket trouserDetail where you want the eye
Small adjustments
- TopsKeep them plain and let the neckline do the work. A scoop or a V opens the line; save the detail for below the waist.
- BottomsThis is where the volume goes – a full skirt, a wide leg, a bootcut. Take the fullest one you can walk in without thinking about it.
- OuterwearUnstructured shoulders and a hem that falls below the widest part of the skirt. Raglan sleeves before set-in ones.
The other six – foundations, one-pieces, beachwear, shoes, bags and accessories – are in the shape book that comes with the subscription.
What to skip
Shoulder pads, boat necks, puff sleeves and heavy epaulettes – anything that adds where there is already width.
How to find your body shape
Stand in front of a mirror and compare three widths: shoulders, waist and hips. The quiz shows four outlines and asks which is closest to yours, then your height and size, so the advice fits your build as well as your line.
